Meet the Intern: Suzie Conway

Meet our new marketing intern, Suz C!

 

What does a brand mean to you?

- True individuality - being able to separate yourself from the clutter.

Favorite truth quote?

- "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Best artist in the game right now?

- The National - they make a sad song like no other.

What do you do outside of Proverb (... that you can speak of here!)?

- I like to go to concerts, rock climb, seek out cheap eats in Boston, and go to movies at the Coolridge.

What is one thing you want to do before you die?

- Some sort of adrenaline-junkie sport, like bungee jumping, white water rafting or hang-gliding, even though I'd be scared senseless.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

- Probably giving a new city a try, hopefully working at an ad agency. But if I'm not that lucky in the job hunt, I'd be satisfied with finding a job or life pursuit that just makes me happy.

What's one thing you consider truly "innovative."

- Music streaming services like Spotify & Rdio. Unfortunately I'm sure they don't help support artists as much as buying music, but I know that without streaming services, I wouldn't be exposed to nearly the same amount of (legal) music as I am now.

Why marketing?

- I'm always fascinated when an ad  can make a personal connection. The combination of business acumen and creative thinking that gets into a campaign that has that kind of power is the type of work I'd love to be a part of.

Favorite website? Apps? Books?

- Websites: Etsy, Reddit

- Apps: Evernote, honorable mention is the flashlight app. It's a rare app that can help during a blackout.

- Books: To Kill a Mockingbird, Lolita

New Year's Art Resolution

A resolution of ours this year, is to simply see more art.

Starting with: the Mickalene Thomas exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art.

Thomas is known for her elaborate works composed of Swarovski rhinestones, enamel, and acrylic, creating contemporary images of black female power, sexuality, and beauty. She is also known for experimenting with the construction of intimate interior spaces, creating a metaphor for the female body.

Meet the Intern: Yoo Sun Hwang

Hi,

I'm Yoo Sun, a Design Intern at Proverb. I'm a rising Senior at the Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in Graphic Design. As an international student from Korea, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures and languages have become a huge part of my life. I am very excited to work at Proverb, and meet nice people with great design aesthetics, and further explore my interest in branding and graphic design. I will be staying in Providence, and commuting to Boston, but I am looking forward to having new experiences in Boston. I am planning to travel to cities in the East Coast, and hoping to get a chance to hike the mountains this summer. After the summer, I will go back to my university life and enjoy my last semetser at RISD.

What does a brand mean to you?
Branding is being able to recognize a company's identity that associates itself with its history, environment, and ideology.

What's your favorite truth quote?
"Never apologize for showing feeling. When you do so, you apologize for the truth." - Benjamin Disraeli

What is your favorite song?
I always start my day with November Rain by Guns N Roses.

What do you do outside of Proverb?
I listen to music, take walks, study Chinese and Japanese, and hang out with friends.

What is one thing you want to do before you die?
I hope to travel all around the world and meet new people, and experience new cultures and way of life.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself working as a graphic designer for a design agency in Europe or Asia. There are a lot of possibilities for which direction I can go with Graphic Design, but I want to experiment with merging graphic design and multimedia.  

Meet the Intern: Hien Pham

Hi,

I'm Hien, a Marketing Communications Intern here at Proverb. I am a senior at Keuka College, majoring in Business Management, minoring in Communications, and concentrating in International Business. Being a summer intern at Proverb is a great opportunity for me to indulge in my passion for the marketing and advertising world. From interning here, I expect to explore a greater depth of branding, which has been becoming a highly critical business factor. I have been very impressed with Proverb's workplace, even from my first day coming in. I am looking forward to working with the other interns, Proverb's clients, and other potential projects.

What does a brand mean to you?
A brand is not just a logo, company identity, advertising or a form of communication. A brand is confidence, passion, belonging, reality, and a set of unique values.

What's your favorite truth quote?

What's your favorite song?
Jason Mraz's hits are always at the top of my list.

What do you do outside of Proverb?
I love hanging out with friends at coffee shops, listening to instrumental music and covers, and going to the gym. I also play piano.

What is one thing you want to do before you die?
I would like to go back to Australia, where I used to live.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I envision myself to be at a marketing and advertising agency working with non-profit organizations such as UNICEF or PlanUSA. 

 

Meet the Intern: Cassie Chew

Hi everyone,

        I'm Cassie, a Marketing Communications Intern here at Proverb! I'm a rising Junior at the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in Psychology, Economics, and Business. As a native of the Boston area, I'm excited to be spending my summer here with Proverb until the end of August. From learning about brand communication and client research, to being a part of the day-to-day environment of a branding agency, Proverb provides the perfect program for me to further my explorations into the ad agency world. In late June, I'll be traveling to South East Asia, and will explore the branding world overseas, so look out for more posts from me to come in the future!

What do you do outside of Proverb?
I love relaxing, listening to acoustic covers, and watching Friends! I'm also really passionate about working with inner-city children.  

What is one thing you want to do before you die? 
I would love to go to Africa and experience their culture and way of life. 

Where do you see yourself in five years?
I'm really still trying to figure this out, but at the moment, I envision myself finishing up my corps work with Teach for America, and be settling into an apartment in the city to begin a career at a branding or advertising agency.  

Meet the Intern: Courtney Schwab

Hi,
         I'm Courtney, a Design Intern here at Proverb. I am a rising Junior at Boston University majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Event Management and Art History. I recently returned from studying abroad in Venice, and will be interning with Proverb until late August. Proverb is an exciting environment to work in because they focus on the research of a brand, as well as the design, which I feel is an important part of making a brand successful. I am looking forward to living and working in Boston this summer. The city is such an inspirational place to be, especially as I further my explorations into the constantly changing world of design.

What does a brand mean to you?
A brand is a cohesive identity used to represent what a company is all about - it's expressive.

What's your favorite truth quote?

What is your favorite song?
It changes daily, but right now I am obsessed with the new Train CD.

What do you do outside of Proverb?
I like running, kickboxing, making jewelry and spending time with friends.

What is one thing you want to do before you die?
I need to go back to Europe and live there for a year or two. I want to experience as much as I can, and really explore all the world has to offer.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I could see myself living in New York working for a design agency, maybe getting some experience planning events. There's still a lot to do and figure out in the next couple years - I just want to be happy wherever I end up.
