Meet summer 2014 intern Grae; a current Journalism MA student at the University of Hamburg, Germany - Grae has been taken under our wings and will be shown the branding and marketing ropes here at Proverb.
- What does a brand mean to you?
A brand is a life enhancer; a symbol or collection of symbols used to communicate your personality, beliefs, and aspirations to society at large.
- Favorite quote?
“Hakuna Matata” - Timon & Pumba, never gets old.
- Favorite song?
Tracy Chapman – Fast Car.
- What is one thing you want to do before you die?
I hope to leave behind a worthwhile legacy. How I will go about doing so (and what constitutes a "worthwhile" legacy), I have no idea.
- What inspires you?
The world 'inspire' has been abused and overused ad nasuem. However, I will say that certain pieces of media (a movie, book, brand) have had the capacity to alter the way I may view something and / or go about my daily routine.
- What brand, person, or idea do you consider to be a game-changer?
As much as it pains me to say this, the Kardashians have definitely changed the game. To be 'famous for being famous', they have achieved and successfully maintained a level of celebrity that pulls in revenue from multiple sources, branding and embedding themselves in Western society's collective consciousness - further cementing their cultural capital.
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully not a struggling college graduate with two degrees and no job. Life has been rather unpredictable as of late, but I am confident that wherever I end up I will make it work.
- First day impressions of the office?
The office was a lot cozier than I imagined – the work space has a very open, Zen-like quality to it; lots of good energy from the office and the Proverb team.
- I can’t live without _______.
The three Fs. Faith, family and food.
- It’s 5pm. You’re free! What do you like to do outside the office?
I've been without a TV for the past 4 years, but have recently been able to catch up on a few TV shows and films (Game of Thrones and Big Brother UK are currently at the top of my list). Aside from ordering take out and sleeping, exploring a new city – in this case, Boston – and surveying the local art, food and nature scenes are a fun pastime. I've also recently joined a Crossfit gym, fun times!
- What is your simple truth?
Go with the flow – if you have to force it, it wasn't meant to be.
- What are your goals for growth within the marketing/branding field?
I hope to use the experience and knowledge gained to enhance my own personal brand once I (hopefully) start my career in television media.
